About the Counselor - Career

Glenn Usher specializes in vocational exploration through personality assessments such as the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and Strong Interest Inventory. Glenn provides adolescents and adults ages 16 years and older with advisement on career, college selection, and life adjustment issues. Glenn's experience includes working with adult career changers, high school and college level students, group mentoring, and workshop presentations in Career Adjustment and Stress Reduction issues.

Glenn earned a Masters Degree in Counseling from West Chester University of Pennsylvania and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC - Commonwealth of Pennsylvania #PC006015) and a National Certified Counselor (NCC - #237209).

Glenn currently works as a Professional Guidance Counselor in an urban Philadelphia Public High School and is certified by the states of Pennsylvania and Maryland.

Glenn has experience and insight with a multitude of career fields having worked as a television news reporter and program producer, homeland security/emergency management specialist, fire safety educator, professional firefighter and emergency medical technician. Glenn’s experiences in multiple career fields bring a special awareness of how to creatively connect interest with potential in respect to career direction.

About the Instructor/Author - Literacy

Dr. JoAnn Yaworski-Usher teaches Developmental Reading, Study Skills, and teacher education classes in the Department of Literacy at West Chester University in the Philadelphia area of Pennsylvania. She has been teaching reading, study skills, and other academic disciplines including History, World Cultures, English, and the Russian Language for public and private high schools, colleges, and universities for over 27 years.

JoAnn is author of AbLongman's college reading series "Getting Ahead: Fundamentals of College Reading" and "Reading Between the Lines: Advanced College Reading." She is also the original content provider for over twelve web-sites companions to best-selling AbLongman reading and study skills textbooks.

JoAnn received her Ph.D. in Reading and Educational Psychology from the University at Albany, The State University of New York in 1996. Her dissertation "Why students succeed or fail: Theories of underachieving affluent college students" won the "Distinguished Doctoral Dissertation Award" from this same institution. She has been a frequent presenter at conferences sponsored by the College Reading & Learning Association. Her research and practical application articles appear in the Journal of College Reading & Learning and in the Journal of Developmental Education.

JoAnn has been named in Who's Who in America (51st Edition), Who's Who in the World (12th, 13th, 14th, & 15th Editions), Who's Who in the East (24th, 25th, & 26th Editions), Who's Who of American Women, (19th & 20th Editions) and Who's Who in American Education (4th & 5th Editions) for her work with college students.

JoAnn is certified as a Reading Specialist by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and the Texas State Board of Education. She is certified as a Teacher of Reading by the New York State Education Department and the State of New Jersey Department of Education.
